这个三人组合在他们的传奇生涯中共获得了5个格来美奖，发行了5张Top 10专辑，6张金唱片和3张白金唱片。Peter,Paul & Mary 由Peter Yarrow，Paul Stookey和Mary Travers组成，他们原来分别活跃于音乐界。在一段几乎有如传奇的历程之后，在后来 Bob Dylan 的经纪人 Grossman 的建议下，正式组成三重唱。

1962年五月，他们首度以《Lemon Tree》打进排行，一炮而红。

Lemon Tree 是一首美国歌曲，由Will Holt作于上世纪60年代，曲子改编自巴西民歌，最早由彼得、保罗与玛丽乐队所唱，从而为世人所熟知。

    有些人唱歌是为了赚钱，有些人屹立歌坛，却是为了一份执着的理想，希望透过自己的歌声，传递他们心目中的真理。正是因为有了这些不把商业目的作为创作动机的音乐人，才令人坚信音乐改变世界，而他们之中的一份子就是彼得、保罗和玛丽三重唱。
    1962年彼得、保罗与玛丽首张同名专辑曾被评选为发烧片，纯净的歌声与和声的层次感加上简单的木吉他伴奏曾让发烧友们趋之若鹜，多年之后再度回味那时代单纯的民谣，心灵依然得到一次净化。
